About the Episode

Hey guys, welcome back another episode of Adapt, the podcast I produce for subscribers of my newsletter about pursuing new talents - from music to cooking to workouts and a whole bunch more.

Part of what I want to do with this project is to give a platform to people and causes that deserve it, so that’s exactly what I’m doing with today’s episode.

I sat down with CrossFit athlete turned distance runner for a cause, Stephanie Demos.  Steph is closing in on the end of her partnership with the Michael J. Fox Foundation to run a 5k everyday, for 100 days in a row to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s research.

Our conversation covers her Mom’s diagnosis several years ago, how she landed on the campaign, and the athletic feat of actually running a 5k every day for 100 days in a row.

Before we dive in, I’m going to give you my cheat sheet for my top 3 takeaways from this conversation with Steph:

  1. We tend to make things more complicated than they are.  One of the brilliant things that Steph has done is just run.  You’ll notice that I keep asking for her secrets - routines, techniques, nutrition, anything.  Cause there’s gotta be, right?  I think we’re always looking for the silver bullet, myself included. And while she has great answers to all of those things, the smartest thing she’s done is to just start running.

  2. Have something to run for.  To commit to something this physically grueling over such a long period of time, you have to have something to run for beyond just because.  Steph has that in spades, as this campaign is dedicated to her mom.

  3. When it comes to fitness, set a goal and make it public. Tell everybody about it.  Steph set this audacious goal publicly, and she posts her runs on Instagram every single day.  That type of public accountability will keep you going on the days when you really don’t feel like putting in the work.  The decision’s already been made, time to put in the work.

There’s a lot more than those 3 in there, so let Steph know your takeaways, follow up questions and ideas for her next venture in the comments.

She’s run a 5k, everyday, for 100 days in a row - I think she’s earned it.  As of this posting, there’s about a week left in the campaign, so if you want to donate - stop what you’re doing, hit pause and donate right now.

Without further ado, please enjoy my conversation with fellow Dayton Flyer, Steph Demos.
